Sasha, born Alexander Paul Coe on September 4, 1969, is a British DJ, record producer, and remixer who has made a significant impact on the electronic dance music scene. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of progressive house music and has been active in the industry for over three decades. Sasha was born in Bangor, Wales, and grew up in the small town of Sandbanks in Dorset, England. He developed an interest in music at a young age and started playing the piano when he was just six years old. He later learned to play the guitar and the drums and began experimenting with electronic music in his teenage years. In the late 1980s, Sasha started DJing at local clubs and quickly gained a reputation for his innovative mixing style and his ability to blend different genres of music. He soon became a resident DJ at the legendary club Renaissance in Mansfield, where he played alongside other notable DJs such as John Digweed and Carl Cox. Sasha's breakthrough came in 1992 when he released his first single, "Higher Ground," on the label Stress Records. The track was a commercial success and helped establish Sasha as a rising star in the electronic dance music scene. He went on to release several more singles and remixes over the next few years, including "Magic," "Xpander," and "Scorchio," which became club anthems and cemented his reputation as a leading figure in the progressive house genre. In 1994, Sasha and John Digweed released their first mix album, "Renaissance: The Mix Collection," which was a critical and commercial success. The album showcased their unique mixing style and helped popularize progressive house music around the world. They went on to release several more mix albums together, including "Northern Exposure" and "Communicate," which further solidified their status as two of the most influential DJs in the industry. Sasha's solo career continued to flourish in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with the release of his debut album, "Airdrawndagger," in 2002. The album was a departure from his previous work and showcased his versatility as a producer, incorporating elements of ambient, techno, and breakbeat music. It received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. In addition to his successful music career, Sasha has also been recognized for his contributions to the industry. He has won several awards, including the International Dance Music Award for Best House/Garage Track for his remix of Felix Da Housecat's "Watching Cars Go By" in 2003. He was also named DJ Magazine's number one DJ in the world in 2000 and 2002, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2013. Sasha's live performances are renowned for their energy and creativity, and he has played at some of the world's most prestigious venues and festivals. He has headlined events such as Coachella, Glastonbury, and Ultra Music Festival, and has performed at iconic venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and the Royal Albert Hall. In recent years, Sasha has continued to push the boundaries of electronic dance music, experimenting with new sounds and collaborating with other artists. He released his second album, "Scene Delete," in 2016, which featured ambient and experimental tracks that were inspired by his film and television scoring work. He has also collaborated with artists such as Hot Chip, Adam Beyer, and Kölsch, and has remixed tracks for artists such as Madonna, The Chemical Brothers, and Radiohead.
