Role:ConductorBirth:in Bucharest, RomaniaAlina Rotaru is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a harpsichordist and pianist. Born in Bucharest, Romania, on December 22, 1981, Rotaru showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Her parents, both music teachers, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Rotaru's musical education began at the George Enescu Music High School in Bucharest, where she studied piano and harpsichord. She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in harpsichord performance from the National University of Music in Bucharest, where she studied with renowned harpsichordist and musicologist Catalin Paduretu. She then continued her studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands, where she earned a Master's degree in harpsichord performance under the guidance of Jacques Ogg. Rotaru's talent and dedication to her craft quickly became evident, and she began to receive recognition for her performances. In 2005, she won first prize at the International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges, Belgium, and in 2006, she was a finalist at the International Harpsichord Competition in Prague, Czech Republic. These early successes helped to establish Rotaru as a rising star in the world of classical music. Over the years, Rotaru has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals. She has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra, the Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra, and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. She has also performed at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Festival Oude Muziek in Bruges, and the Festival de Musique Baroque de Lamèque in Canada, among others. One of Rotaru's most notable performances was her debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2008. She performed a program of works by Bach, Scarlatti, and Rameau to critical acclaim, with one reviewer describing her playing as "exquisite and refined." This performance helped to solidify Rotaru's reputation as one of the leading harpsichordists of her generation. In addition to her performances as a soloist, Rotaru is also an accomplished chamber musician. She has collaborated with a number of renowned musicians, including violinist Rachel Podger, cellist Pieter Wispelwey, and soprano Johannette Zomer. Together, they have performed works by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi, among others. Rotaru's recordings have also received widespread acclaim. Her debut album, "Harpsichord Music from Romania," was released in 2009 and features works by Romanian composers such as Dinu Lipatti and George Enescu. The album was praised for its "impeccable technique" and "sensitive interpretation." Rotaru has also recorded works by Bach, Scarlatti, and Rameau, among others. In addition to her performing and recording career, Rotaru is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught masterclasses at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, the Bucharest National University of Music, and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, among others. She is currently a professor of harpsichord at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany. Throughout her career, Rotaru has received numerous awards and honors. In 2010, she was awarded the Romanian Order of Cultural Merit for her contributions to the arts.
