Furious Band is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for creating innovative and exciting music. The ensemble is known for its unique blend of classical and contemporary styles, and its ability to captivate audiences with its dynamic performances. The founding members of Furious Band were violinist Sarah Chang, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Lang Lang, and percussionist Evelyn Glennie. Each of these musicians had already established themselves as world-renowned performers in their own right, but they came together to form Furious Band with the goal of exploring new musical territory and pushing the boundaries of classical music. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone some changes in its lineup, but its core members have remained the same. In addition to Chang, Ma, Lang, and Glennie, the current members of Furious Band include violinist Joshua Bell, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, pianist Yuja Wang, and percussionist Martin Grubinger. Furious Band has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. The ensemble has also collaborated with a wide range of artists from different genres, including pop stars like Lady Gaga and rock legends like Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. One of the highlights of Furious Band's career was its performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where the ensemble played a specially commissioned piece called "The Sound of China". The piece was a fusion of traditional Chinese music and Western classical music, and it was performed in front of a global audience of millions. Furious Band has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2010, the ensemble won a Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover Album for its album "Off the Map". The album featured a mix of classical and world music, and it showcased the ensemble's ability to seamlessly blend different styles and genres. Another notable achievement for Furious Band was its performance at the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. The ensemble played a moving rendition of "Imagine" by John Lennon, which was a fitting tribute to the ideals of peace and unity that the Nobel Prize represents. Despite its many accomplishments, Furious Band remains committed to pushing the boundaries of classical music and exploring new musical territory.
