From a young age, Rudolf showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Rudolf's talent was quickly recognized, and he began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and composer, Walter Gieseking. Under Gieseking's tutelage, Rudolf developed his skills and became a proficient pianist. He also studied composition with Paul Hindemith and conducting with Wilhelm Furtwängler. This was a significant achievement for the young musician and helped to launch his career on the international stage. His performances were often described as "intense" and "passionate," and he was praised for his ability to connect with audiences on a deep level. In addition to his career as a pianist, Rudolf was also a respected conductor. He served as the principal conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra from 1961 to 1967 and conducted many other orchestras throughout his career. He was known for his ability to bring out the best in the musicians he worked with and for his attention to detail in rehearsals. Throughout his career, Rudolf received many awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1963, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, one of the country's highest honors. He was also awarded the Beethoven Ring, a prestigious award given to musicians who have made significant contributions to the interpretation of Beethoven's music.
