The Chorus of Early Opera Company is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing early opera music. The group was founded in 2005 by conductor and musicologist Christian Curnyn, who sought to create a professional ensemble that could bring the music of the Baroque and early Classical periods to life. Curnyn assembled a group of talented singers and instrumentalists, many of whom had experience performing early music. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and innovative programming, which often featured lesser-known works from the early opera repertoire. One of the highlights of the Chorus of Early Opera Company's early years was its performance of Handel's "Acis and Galatea" at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2006. The performance was praised for its energy and precision, and helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading early music groups in the UK. Over the years, the Chorus of Early Opera Company has continued to perform at major venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe. The group has collaborated with a number of leading soloists and conductors, including soprano Lucy Crowe and conductor Laurence Cummings. In 2010, the ensemble received the prestigious Gramophone Award for its recording of Handel's "Semele." In addition to its performances and recordings, the Chorus of Early Opera Company is also committed to education and outreach.
