Born in Moscow, Russia in 1983, Rubinshteyn began his musical journey at a young age. His parents, both professional musicians, recognized his talent early on and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Rubinshteyn began his formal training at the Moscow State Conservatory, where he studied piano under the tutelage of renowned pianist and pedagogue Lev Naumov. He also studied conducting with Gennady Rozhdestvensky and piano with Vladimir Tropp. During his time at the conservatory, Rubinshteyn won several awards and competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Rome and the International Piano Competition in Paris. After completing his studies at the Moscow State Conservatory, Rubinshteyn moved to the United States to further his education. He enrolled in the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied piano with Yoheved Kaplinsky and conducting with James DePreist. While at Juilliard, Rubinshteyn continued to win awards and competitions, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the International Piano Competition in Cleveland. Rubinshteyn's career as a performer began to take off in the early 2000s. He made his debut as a soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in 2001, performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. He went on to perform with several other major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a soloist, Rubinshteyn has also established himself as a conductor. He has conducted several major orchestras, including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. He has also served as the music director of the New York Chamber Orchestra and the New York Youth Symphony. Rubinshteyn is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Moscow State Conservatory. He has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world, sharing his knowledge and expertise with aspiring musicians. Throughout his career, Rubinshteyn has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He has also been awarded the Prokofiev Prize, the Tchaikovsky Prize, and the Rachmaninoff Prize, among others. Rubinshteyn's performances and recordings have been praised by critics and audiences alike. His recordings of the complete piano works of Rachmaninoff and the complete piano sonatas of Beethoven have been particularly well-received. He has also collaborated with several other musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to his work as a performer, conductor, and educator, Rubinshteyn is also a philanthropist. He has established the Timur Rubinshteyn Foundation, which provides support and resources to young musicians around the world.
