He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already won several prestigious competitions in his home country. In 1988, Vatchnadze was accepted into the Tbilisi State Conservatory, where he studied under the renowned pianist and pedagogue Nodar Gabunia. Under Gabunia's tutelage, Vatchnadze honed his technical skills and developed a deep understanding of the nuances of classical music. He is also a passionate advocate for the music of his native Georgia, and has performed and recorded works by Georgian composers such as Sulkhan Tsintsadze and Giya Kancheli. One of the highlights of Vatchnadze's career came in 2001, when he was invited to perform at the White House for President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.
