Van Phillips was a British composer, arranger, and conductor who was born on January 22, 1905, in London, England. He was the son of a music hall performer and grew up in a musical family. Van Phillips began his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied composition, conducting, and piano. One of Van Phillips' most significant contributions to music was his work on the BBC's "Music While You Work" program. This program was broadcast during World War II and was designed to boost morale among factory workers.
