Ron Korb is a Canadian flutist, composer, and recording artist who has gained international recognition for his unique blend of classical, world, and jazz music. Born in Toronto, Canada in 1960, Korb began playing the flute at the age of ten and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and later at the University of Toronto, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree. Korb's early career was focused on classical music, and he performed with several orchestras in Canada, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra. However, he soon began to explore other genres of music, including jazz and world music, and began to incorporate these influences into his own compositions. In 1989, Korb released his first album, "Flute Traveller," which featured his own compositions inspired by his travels around the world. The album was well-received and helped to establish Korb as a unique voice in the world of music. He followed this up with several more albums, including "Behind the Mask" (1992), "Celtic Heartland" (1995), and "Japanese Mysteries" (1998), which further explored his interest in world music. Korb's music has been featured in several films and television shows, including the CBC series "The Nature of Things" and the IMAX film "The Great American West." He has also performed at several major music festivals around the world, including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and the World Expo in Japan. In addition to his work as a performer and composer, Korb is also a respected music educator. He has taught at several universities and music schools in Canada and has written several instructional books and articles on flute playing and music theory. Throughout his career, Korb has received numerous awards and accolades for his music. In 1995, he was awarded the Canadian Independent Music Award for Best Instrumental Album for "Celtic Heartland." He has also been nominated for several Juno Awards, Canada's top music award, and was a finalist for the award in 2000 for his album "Ron Korb: Flute Spirit."
