Role:Composer PerformerSascha Lino Lemke was born on May 12, 1985, in Berlin, Germany. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a cellist. From a young age, Lemke showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later learned to play the cello and the violin. Lemke's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He attended the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where he studied composition under the guidance of renowned composers such as Hanspeter Kyburz and Wolfgang Rihm. During his time at the conservatory, Lemke also studied piano and cello, and he performed in various chamber music ensembles. Lemke's early compositions were heavily influenced by the works of the Second Viennese School, particularly Arnold Schoenberg and Alban Berg. His music was characterized by its atonal and dissonant harmonies, complex rhythms, and intricate textures. However, as he matured as a composer, Lemke began to incorporate more tonal elements into his music, while still retaining his distinctive style. One of Lemke's early works, "String Quartet No. 1," was premiered in 2007 by the Arditti Quartet. The piece was well-received by critics, who praised its technical virtuosity and emotional depth. Lemke continued to write for chamber ensembles, and his works were performed by groups such as the Ensemble Modern and the Klangforum Wien. In 2010, Lemke was commissioned by the Berlin Philharmonic to write a new work for their annual contemporary music festival. The resulting piece, "Concerto for Orchestra," was premiered by the orchestra under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The work was a departure from Lemke's earlier compositions, featuring a more tonal and accessible style. The piece was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and it helped to establish Lemke as one of the leading young composers of his generation. Lemke's music continued to evolve, and he began to incorporate elements of jazz and popular music into his compositions. His 2014 work, "Piano Concerto No. 1," featured a solo piano part that drew heavily on jazz improvisation. The piece was premiered by the pianist Yuja Wang and the Berlin Philharmonic, and it received widespread acclaim for its innovative fusion of classical and jazz styles. In addition to his work as a composer, Lemke was also an active performer and conductor. He frequently conducted his own works, as well as those of other contemporary composers. He also performed as a pianist and cellist, and he was known for his virtuosic technique and expressive playing. Tragically, Lemke's promising career was cut short when he died in a car accident on June 17, 2016, at the age of 31. His death was a great loss to the world of classical music, and he was mourned by his colleagues and fans around the world. Despite his short career, Lemke left behind a significant body of work that continues to be performed and admired by musicians and audiences alike. His music is characterized by its technical brilliance, emotional depth, and innovative fusion of different musical styles. He will be remembered as one of the most talented and promising composers of his generation.More....
