Ivan Hovorun is a Ukrainian classical pianist and composer who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative compositions. Born on May 22, 1984, in Kyiv, Ukraine, Hovorun showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument and was soon performing in public concerts and competitions. Hovorun's early musical education was shaped by his studies at the Lysenko Special Music School in Kyiv, where he received rigorous training in classical piano technique and repertoire. He went on to study at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance and a Master's degree in Composition. Throughout his studies, Hovorun distinguished himself as a gifted performer and composer, winning numerous awards and accolades. In 2005, he was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz, held in Kyiv. He also won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Memory of Emil Gilels in Odessa, Ukraine, in 2006. Hovorun's talent as a composer was also recognized early on, and he has received commissions and performances of his works by leading ensembles and orchestras around the world. In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious Gaude Polonia scholarship, which allowed him to study composition at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland. Hovorun's career as a performer and composer has taken him to many of the world's leading concert halls and festivals. He has performed as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. He has also been a featured artist at the Chopin and His Europe Festival in Warsaw, the International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York, and the International Piano Festival in Miami. One of Hovorun's most notable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2012. He performed a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and his own compositions to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "dazzling technique and interpretive flair," while the New York Concert Review called him "a pianist of the highest order." In addition to his performances as a soloist, Hovorun is also an active chamber musician and collaborator. He has performed with leading musicians such as violinist Vadim Repin, cellist Gautier Capuçon, and pianist Boris Berezovsky. He is a founding member of the Hulencourt Soloists, a chamber ensemble based in Belgium that has performed at major festivals and venues throughout Europe. Hovorun's compositions have been performed by leading ensembles and orchestras around the world, including the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. His works have been featured at the Warsaw Autumn Festival, the International Festival of Contemporary Music in Kyiv, and the International Festival of New Music in Miami.
