Édouard Macarez was a French classical music artist who was born on December 22, 1978, in Lille, France. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a double bass player. Macarez began playing the double bass at the age of six, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Macarez studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he was a student of François Rabbath. He also studied with Thierry Barbé and Jean-François Raffin. Macarez graduated from the conservatory with a first prize in double bass performance. Macarez began his professional career as a member of the Orchestre National de Lille, where he played from 2001 to 2003. He then joined the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, where he played from 2003 to 2006. In 2006, Macarez joined the Orchestre de Paris, where he played until 2012. Macarez was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the full range of colors and emotions in the double bass. He was also known for his innovative approach to the instrument, and he was a pioneer in the use of extended techniques, such as harmonics and pizzicato. Macarez was a frequent soloist with orchestras around the world, and he performed with many of the world's leading conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, and Simon Rattle. He also performed with many of the world's leading soloists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Maxim Vengerov. Macarez was the recipient of many awards and honors throughout his career.
