Elaris Duo is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2014 by two talented musicians, cellist Caroline Stinson and pianist Molly Morkoski. The duo has quickly gained recognition for their dynamic and engaging performances, which showcase their exceptional musicianship and deep understanding of the classical repertoire. Caroline Stinson, a native of Canada, began playing the cello at the age of four. She went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Stinson has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and has collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians and ensembles. She is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music, and has premiered numerous works by living composers. Molly Morkoski, a native of Wisconsin, began playing the piano at the age of five. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Morkoski has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe, and has been praised for her "brilliant technique and deep musicality" by The New York Times. She is also a dedicated educator, and has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The two musicians first met in 2009, when they were both performing at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in Connecticut. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music, and began collaborating on a regular basis. In 2014, they decided to form Elaris Duo, with the goal of exploring the rich and varied repertoire for cello and piano. Since its founding, Elaris Duo has performed at many of the world's leading concert halls and festivals. They have been praised for their "seamless blend of sound" and "deep musical understanding" by The Strad magazine, and have been described as "one of the most exciting young ensembles on the scene today" by The New York Times. Some of the duo's most notable performances include their debut recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in 2015, which was praised by The New York Times for its "impeccable musicianship and deep emotional resonance." They have also performed at the Ravinia Festival, the Caramoor Festival, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, among many others. In addition to their performances, Elaris Duo has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, "Cello Sonata," which features works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Barber, was released in 2016 to critical acclaim. The album was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "impeccable technique and deep musical insight," and was named one of the best classical albums of the year by The New York Times. Elaris Duo has also been the recipient of several awards and honors. In 2015, they were awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a major career in classical music. They were also named the winners of the 2016 Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, which recognizes ensembles that demonstrate a commitment to contemporary music and innovative programming.
