Simhah Chamber Collegium is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The founding members of Simhah Chamber Collegium were violinist Yevgeny Kutik, cellist Eliran Avni, and pianist Yelena Grinberg. All three musicians had extensive experience performing as soloists and chamber musicians, and they were eager to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music together. Over the years, Simhah Chamber Collegium has expanded to include a rotating roster of musicians, including some of the most talented instrumentalists in the New York City area. The ensemble's core members, however, remain Kutik, Avni, and Grinberg, who continue to lead the group with their artistic vision and musical expertise. Simhah Chamber Collegium has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. The ensemble has also toured extensively throughout the country, performing in major cities such as Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles. One of the highlights of Simhah Chamber Collegium's career was its performance at the 2010 Aspen Music Festival, where the ensemble received critical acclaim for its interpretation of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. The ensemble has also been featured on numerous radio programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and WQXR's "The McGraw Hill Companies Young Artists Showcase." Simhah Chamber Collegium is known for its innovative programming, which often features lesser-known works by composers from a variety of musical traditions. The ensemble has premiered works by contemporary composers such as Avner Dorman and Lera Auerbach, as well as lesser-known works by classical composers such as Franz Schubert and Felix Mendelssohn. In addition to its performances, Simhah Chamber Collegium is committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble has conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians throughout the United States, and has also performed for underserved communities in New York City. Simhah Chamber Collegium has received numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. The ensemble's debut album, "Simhah," was released in 2008 to critical acclaim, and was named one of the top classical recordings of the year by The New York Times. The ensemble's second album, "Transfigured Night," was released in 2012 and was also highly praised by critics. In 2014, Simhah Chamber Collegium was awarded the prestigious Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, which recognizes ensembles that demonstrate a commitment to innovative programming and the performance of new and underrepresented works. Simhah Chamber Collegium continues to be one of the most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles in the United States. With its commitment to artistic excellence, innovative programming, and music education, the ensemble is sure to continue to inspire and delight audiences for years to come.
