Two Cities Symphony Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by conductor and music director, Dr. Robert Hart Baker. The orchestra is based in Fresno, California, and is made up of professional musicians from the Central Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Baker, who has over 50 years of experience in conducting and teaching music, founded Two Cities Symphony Orchestra with the goal of bringing high-quality classical music performances to the Central Valley. The name "Two Cities" refers to the orchestra's two main performance locations: Fresno and Clovis, two neighboring cities in the Central Valley. The orchestra's main members include Dr. Baker as the music director and conductor, as well as a core group of around 50 professional musicians. Many of these musicians have performed with other well-known orchestras, such as the San Francisco Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Since its founding, Two Cities Symphony Orchestra has performed a number of notable concerts and received several awards. In 2016, the orchestra performed a sold-out concert at the historic Warnors Theatre in downtown Fresno, featuring works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. The concert was praised by local critics for its high level of musicianship and emotional depth. In 2017, the orchestra performed a concert at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District, featuring works by Mozart, Haydn, and Mendelssohn. The concert was part of the orchestra's "Classics in Clovis" series, which aims to bring classical music to the community in a more intimate setting. In addition to its regular concert series, Two Cities Symphony Orchestra has also collaborated with other local organizations to bring classical music to a wider audience. In 2018, the orchestra performed a concert with the Fresno Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, featuring works by Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. The concert was a great success, with over 1,000 people in attendance. Two Cities Symphony Orchestra has also received several awards for its performances and contributions to the community. In 2019, the orchestra was awarded the "Outstanding Arts Organization" award by the Fresno Arts Council, in recognition of its commitment to bringing high-quality classical music to the Central Valley.
