Louisiana Sinfonietta is a classical music ensemble based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The ensemble was founded in 2001 by a group of local musicians who shared a passion for classical music and a desire to bring high-quality performances to the Baton Rouge community. The founding members of Louisiana Sinfonietta included violinists Espen Lilleslatten and Dino Zonic, violist Bruce Owen, cellist Dennis Parker, and pianist Willis Delony. These musicians had all performed extensively in the Baton Rouge area and had a deep understanding of the local classical music scene. From the beginning, Louisiana Sinfonietta set out to be a versatile ensemble that could perform a wide range of classical music styles and genres. The group's repertoire includes works by classical masters such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, as well as contemporary composers like John Adams and Philip Glass. One of the highlights of Louisiana Sinfonietta's early years was a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, also known as the "Choral Symphony." This performance, which took place in 2003, featured the Baton Rouge Symphony Chorus and soloists from the LSU School of Music. The concert was a huge success and helped establish Louisiana Sinfonietta as a major force in the Baton Rouge classical music scene. Over the years, Louisiana Sinfonietta has continued to perform at a high level and has earned numerous accolades and awards. In 2007, the ensemble was named "Best Chamber Music Group" by the Baton Rouge Advocate, and in 2010, it received a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts to support its performances and educational outreach programs. One of the most memorable performances in Louisiana Sinfonietta's history took place in 2012, when the ensemble collaborated with the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre to present a production of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker." This performance, which featured live music by Louisiana Sinfonietta, was a huge success and drew rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. In addition to its regular concert series, Louisiana Sinfonietta is also committed to educational outreach and community engagement. The ensemble regularly performs at local schools and community centers, and it has developed a number of programs designed to introduce young people to classical music. One of these programs is the "Young Artists Competition," which is open to young musicians in the Baton Rouge area. The competition provides an opportunity for talented young musicians to perform with Louisiana Sinfonietta and to receive feedback and guidance from the ensemble's experienced musicians.
