Quartom is a Canadian classical music ensemble that specializes in a cappella vocal music. The group was founded in 2008 by four friends who shared a passion for singing and a desire to explore the rich repertoire of vocal music from around the world. The founding members of Quartom are Julien Patenaude, Benoit Le Blanc, Philippe Martel, and Gaétan Sauvageau. All four members are classically trained singers with extensive experience performing in choirs and vocal ensembles. From the beginning, Quartom set out to create a unique sound that blended the precision and discipline of classical music with the warmth and intimacy of folk and popular music. The group's repertoire includes everything from Renaissance motets and Baroque choral works to contemporary pop songs and original compositions. One of the highlights of Quartom's early career was their participation in the 2010 edition of the prestigious International A Cappella Competition in Graz, Austria. The group's performance earned them a second-place finish and widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike. Since then, Quartom has gone on to perform at some of the world's most renowned concert halls and music festivals. They have appeared at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra's Christmas concerts, the Festival de Lanaudière, and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, among others. In addition to their live performances, Quartom has also released several critically acclaimed albums. Their debut album, simply titled Quartom, was released in 2010 and features a mix of classical and contemporary vocal music. The album was praised for its innovative arrangements and the group's impeccable vocal technique. Quartom's second album, Les saisons de Quartom, was released in 2013 and features a collection of songs inspired by the changing seasons. The album includes works by composers such as Vivaldi, Schubert, and Debussy, as well as original compositions by the members of the group. In 2016, Quartom released their third album, Noël, which features a selection of Christmas carols and holiday songs from around the world. The album was a commercial and critical success, earning the group a Juno Award nomination for Best Classical Album. One of the hallmarks of Quartom's performances is their engaging stage presence and playful sense of humor. The group is known for incorporating elements of theater and comedy into their shows, creating a unique and entertaining experience for audiences. Despite their success, Quartom remains committed to their original mission of exploring the diverse and rich repertoire of vocal music from around the world. The group continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with a cappella singing, creating innovative and exciting performances that delight audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
