The Adam Meckler Orchestra is a Minneapolis-based ensemble that has been making waves in the world of classical music since its founding in 2011. Led by trumpeter and composer Adam Meckler, the group has gained a reputation for its innovative approach to big band jazz and its ability to seamlessly blend classical and contemporary styles. Meckler, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, began his musical career as a trumpet player in his high school jazz band. He went on to study music at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in trumpet performance. After graduation, Meckler began performing with various jazz ensembles in the Twin Cities area, including the JazzMN Orchestra and the Pete Whitman X-Tet. In 2011, Meckler decided to form his own ensemble, the Adam Meckler Orchestra. The group's first performance took place at the Artists' Quarter in St. Paul, and it was an immediate success. The ensemble's unique sound, which blended traditional big band jazz with elements of classical and contemporary music, quickly caught the attention of audiences and critics alike. The Adam Meckler Orchestra's core lineup consists of 17 musicians, including Meckler on trumpet, a rhythm section of piano, bass, and drums, and a horn section of saxophones, trombones, and trumpets. The group also frequently collaborates with guest vocalists and instrumentalists, adding even more depth and variety to its sound. Over the years, the Adam Meckler Orchestra has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in the country. In 2013, the group was invited to perform at the Twin Cities Jazz Festival, where it shared the stage with jazz legends like McCoy Tyner and Joshua Redman. The following year, the ensemble was selected to perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival, one of the most renowned jazz festivals in the world. In addition to its live performances, the Adam Meckler Orchestra has also released several critically acclaimed albums. The group's debut album, "When the Clouds Look Like This," was released in 2014 and featured original compositions by Meckler. The album received rave reviews from jazz critics, who praised the ensemble's tight arrangements and inventive use of orchestration. The Adam Meckler Orchestra's second album, "Magnificent Madness," was released in 2017 and showcased the group's continued evolution and experimentation. The album featured a mix of original compositions and arrangements of classic jazz standards, and once again received widespread critical acclaim.
