The Royal Academy Consort is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of students from the Royal Academy of Music in London. The ensemble is made up of some of the most talented young musicians in the UK, and has quickly established itself as one of the leading ensembles in the country. The founding members of the Royal Academy Consort were all students at the Royal Academy of Music, and shared a passion for early music. They decided to form an ensemble that would focus on performing music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and began rehearsing together in their spare time. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances, and was soon invited to perform at a number of prestigious venues across the UK. The ensemble is known for its historically informed performances, which aim to recreate the sound and style of music from the period in which it was written. One of the highlights of the Royal Academy Consort's career so far was its performance at the 2012 BBC Proms. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the Proms Chamber Music series, and gave a critically acclaimed performance of works by Monteverdi and Purcell. The ensemble has also been the recipient of a number of awards and accolades. In 2013, the Royal Academy Consort won the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition, which is one of the most prestigious early music competitions in the world.
