Roland Schnorkh was born on May 12, 1985, in Vienna, Austria. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Schnorkh showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Schnorkh's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Vienna Conservatory of Music at the age of six. He quickly excelled in his studies and began performing in public at the age of eight. By the time he was ten, Schnorkh had already won several local and national piano competitions. In 1997, Schnorkh was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Schnorkh continued to win numerous awards and competitions, including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition. After graduating from Juilliard in 2005, Schnorkh embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's most celebrated conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Valery Gergiev. Schnorkh's repertoire is vast and includes works by many of the great composers, including Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Franz Liszt, and has been praised for his ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of Liszt's music. In addition to his concert career, Schnorkh is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at many of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire de Paris. He is known for his patient and nurturing teaching style, and many of his students have gone on to successful careers as concert pianists. Throughout his career, Schnorkh has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He has also been awarded the Gilmore Artist Award, the Arthur Rubinstein Prize, and the International Classical Music Award. Despite his success, Schnorkh remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to practice for several hours a day, and is always seeking to improve his technique and interpretation. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of his generation, and his performances continue to inspire and move audiences around the world.
