The German Wind Soloists is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over three decades. The ensemble was founded in 1985 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for wind music and a desire to create a unique sound that would showcase the beauty and versatility of wind instruments. The founding members of the German Wind Soloists were all accomplished musicians in their own right, with extensive experience performing with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and ensembles. They included Wolfgang Schulz (flute), Hansjörg Schellenberger (oboe), Radovan Vlatković (horn), Milan Turković (bassoon), and Klaus Thunemann (bassoon). From the very beginning, the German Wind Soloists set out to explore the full range of possibilities offered by wind instruments, from the delicate and ethereal to the bold and powerful. They quickly gained a reputation for their innovative programming, which often featured lesser-known works alongside more familiar pieces, and for their impeccable musicianship and technical skill. Over the years, the ensemble has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms. They have collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors and soloists, including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, and Yo-Yo Ma. One of the highlights of the German Wind Soloists' career was their performance at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. They were the first classical music ensemble to perform at the Olympics, and their performance was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world. The ensemble has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1991, they were awarded the Echo Klassik Award for their recording of Mozart's Serenade No. 10 in B-flat major, K. 361. They have also been awarded the German Record Critics' Award and the Cannes Classical Award. Despite changes in personnel over the years, the German Wind Soloists have remained true to their original vision of exploring the full range of possibilities offered by wind instruments. They continue to inspire audiences around the world with their innovative programming, technical skill, and passion for music.
