Anne Thurmond was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Anne showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Anne's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue music seriously. She began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Under Pires' guidance, Anne's skills developed rapidly, and she began performing in public at the age of eight. At the age of ten, Anne won her first major competition, the Young Pianist Competition in New York City. This win brought her to the attention of the classical music world, and she began receiving invitations to perform at prestigious venues around the world. Anne continued to study with Pires until the age of 18, when she was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City. At Juilliard, Anne studied with the renowned pianist and teacher, Emanuel Ax. Under Ax's guidance, Anne's skills continued to develop, and she began to establish herself as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. In 2007, Anne won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. This win brought her international recognition and established her as one of the leading pianists of her generation. Following her win, Anne began performing regularly with major orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Over the years, Anne has received numerous awards and accolades for her performances. In 2010, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise for a career in classical music. In 2012, she was awarded the Gilmore Artist Award, which is given every four years to a pianist who demonstrates exceptional musicianship and dedication to the piano. Anne's performances are known for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. She has a particular affinity for the music of Chopin and Beethoven, and her interpretations of their works are widely regarded as some of the best in the world. In addition to her performing career, Anne is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught masterclasses at major music schools around the world, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire de Paris.
