Bruce Hangen is a renowned conductor and classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on August 22, 1944, in New York City, United States. From a young age, Hangen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He later switched to the trumpet and continued to play throughout his school years. Hangen attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he studied trumpet and conducting. He also studied at the Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts, where he was mentored by Leonard Bernstein. Hangen's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world. After completing his studies, Hangen began his career as a conductor, working with various orchestras across the United States. He served as the assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1971 to 1974 and later became the music director of the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Maine. Hangen also served as the music director of the Omaha Symphony Orchestra in Nebraska and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in Indiana. One of Hangen's most significant achievements was his work with the Boston Pops Orchestra. He served as the principal guest conductor of the orchestra from 1984 to 1991 and later became the conductor of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. During his tenure with the Boston Pops, Hangen conducted numerous performances and recorded several albums, including "A Splash of Pops" and "Pops Britannia." Hangen has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1991, he was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Juilliard School of Music. He has also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Tanglewood Music Center and the Governor's Arts Award from the State of Maine.
