Ad Corda is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in the United States and has gained a reputation for its exceptional performances of classical music from the Baroque era to the present day. The founding members of Ad Corda were violinist Sarah Whitney, violist Luke Fleming, and cellist Andrea Casarrubios. All three musicians had extensive experience performing in orchestras and chamber ensembles, and they were eager to create a group that would allow them to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music in a more intimate setting. The name "Ad Corda" is derived from the Latin phrase "ad corda nostra," which means "to our hearts." This reflects the ensemble's commitment to performing music that speaks to the emotions and passions of both the performers and the audience. Since its founding, Ad Corda has expanded to include a rotating roster of musicians who collaborate on various projects and performances. However, the core trio of Whitney, Fleming, and Casarrubios remains at the heart of the ensemble, and their musical chemistry and virtuosity are a hallmark of Ad Corda's performances. One of the highlights of Ad Corda's early career was their performance at the 2013 Chamber Music America Conference in New York City. The ensemble was selected to perform as part of the conference's showcase of up-and-coming chamber ensembles, and their performance was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience and critical acclaim from music critics. In 2014, Ad Corda released their debut album, "Ad Corda: Music for Strings." The album features works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Shostakovich, and showcases the ensemble's impeccable musicianship and emotional depth. The album received widespread praise from music critics and helped to establish Ad Corda as one of the most exciting new chamber ensembles on the classical music scene. In addition to their recordings, Ad Corda has also gained a reputation for their dynamic and engaging live performances. The ensemble has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Ravinia Festival, and has collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Simone Dinnerstein and cellist Matt Haimovitz. One of Ad Corda's most memorable performances was their 2016 concert at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The ensemble performed a program of works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms, and their performance was hailed as "spellbinding" by The Washington Post. The concert was also broadcast on National Public Radio, further cementing Ad Corda's reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber ensembles of their generation. In addition to their performances, Ad Corda has also been recognized for their contributions to the classical music world. The ensemble was awarded the prestigious Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant in 2015, which allowed them to collaborate with schools and community organizations to bring classical music to new audiences. Ad Corda has also been committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in classical music. The ensemble has collaborated with organizations such as the Sphinx Organization, which supports young musicians from underrepresented communities, and has performed works by composers from diverse backgrounds.
