Rajery is a renowned musician from Madagascar who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born in 1962 in the small village of Soavimbazaha, Rajery grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a traditional musician who played the valiha, a type of bamboo tube zither, and his mother was a singer. From a young age, Rajery was exposed to music and began playing the valiha himself at the age of six. As a child, Rajery was fascinated by the sound of the valiha and spent hours practicing and perfecting his technique. He quickly became a skilled player and began performing at local events and festivals. His talent did not go unnoticed, and he was soon invited to perform at larger events throughout Madagascar. In the early 1990s, Rajery began to gain international recognition for his music. He was invited to perform at the Festival des Arts Traditionnels in France, where he wowed audiences with his virtuosic valiha playing. This performance led to more opportunities for Rajery to perform abroad, and he soon became a sought-after musician on the world music circuit. Over the years, Rajery has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Carnegie Hall in New York. He has also collaborated with a number of other musicians, including the French accordionist Richard Galliano and the South African singer Miriam Makeba. In addition to his performances, Rajery has also released several albums of his music. His first album, "Mangina," was released in 1994 and was a critical and commercial success. The album showcased Rajery's virtuosic valiha playing and his unique blend of traditional Malagasy music with elements of jazz and classical music. Rajery's music has won him numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1995, he was awarded the Prix Découverte RFI, a prestigious award for up-and-coming world music artists. He has also been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque de l'Académie Charles Cros and the Prix SACEM de la Musique du Monde. Despite his success, Rajery remains committed to preserving and promoting traditional Malagasy music. He is a passionate advocate for the valiha and has worked to ensure that the instrument is recognized and respected both in Madagascar and abroad. He has also been involved in efforts to promote education and cultural exchange in Madagascar, working with organizations such as UNICEF and the Alliance Française. Today, Rajery is considered one of the most important and influential musicians in Madagascar. His music has helped to bring the traditional music of his homeland to a global audience, and his virtuosic valiha playing has inspired countless musicians around the world.
