In 1939, he joined the BBC Dance Orchestra as a saxophonist and arranger. During World War II, Cyril served in the Royal Air Force as a musician. He played in the RAF Dance Orchestra and entertained troops in Europe and North Africa. After the war, he returned to the BBC Dance Orchestra and became its leader in 1947. Under Cyril's leadership, the BBC Dance Orchestra became one of the most popular bands in Britain. They played a wide range of music, including swing, jazz, and classical. Cyril was known for his innovative arrangements and his ability to blend different musical styles. In 1952, Cyril left the BBC Dance Orchestra and formed his own band, the Cyril Stapleton Orchestra.
