Role:EnsembleForma Antiqva is a Spanish classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of Baroque music. The group was founded in 1998 by brothers Aarón Zapico and Pablo Zapico, who are both accomplished musicians in their own right. Since its inception, Forma Antiqva has become one of the most respected and sought-after Baroque ensembles in Europe, known for its virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of early music. Aarón and Pablo Zapico were born in Asturias, Spain, and grew up in a musical family. Their father was a music teacher, and both brothers began studying music at a young age. Aarón studied harpsichord and piano, while Pablo studied guitar and lute. They both went on to study at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Oviedo, where they honed their skills as performers and composers. In 1998, Aarón and Pablo founded Forma Antiqva with the goal of exploring the rich and varied repertoire of Baroque music. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its dynamic and engaging performances, which combined technical virtuosity with a deep understanding of the historical context of the music. Over the years, Forma Antiqva has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe, including the Festival de Música Antigua de Úbeda y Baeza, the Festival de Música Antigua de Aranjuez, and the Festival de Música Antigua de Gijón. The group has also toured extensively throughout Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom, earning critical acclaim and enthusiastic audiences wherever they go. One of the highlights of Forma Antiqva's career came in 2012, when the group was awarded the prestigious National Music Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. The award recognized the ensemble's outstanding contributions to the field of early music, as well as its commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Spain. Forma Antiqva has also released several highly acclaimed recordings, including "Concerto Zapico," which features the music of Antonio Vivaldi, and "La Spagna," which explores the rich tradition of Spanish Baroque music. The group's recordings have been praised for their technical precision, musical sensitivity, and innovative interpretations of the music. In addition to their work with Forma Antiqva, Aarón and Pablo Zapico are both accomplished soloists and chamber musicians. Aarón has performed with some of the world's leading early music ensembles, including Les Talens Lyriques and Le Concert des Nations, while Pablo has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Jordi Savall and Rolf Lislevand. Despite their many accomplishments, Aarón and Pablo Zapico remain committed to their mission of exploring and sharing the beauty and complexity of Baroque music.
