Gottfried Boisits was a renowned classical music artist who was born on August 22, 1952, in Vienna, Austria. He was a talented musician who started playing the clarinet at a young age and quickly developed a passion for classical music. Boisits was a versatile musician who played the clarinet, bass clarinet, and basset horn. Boisits began his musical education at the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Alfred Prinz. He later continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he received his diploma in clarinet performance. Boisits also studied with renowned clarinetists such as Karl Leister, Sabine Meyer, and Eduard Brunner. Boisits began his professional career as a clarinetist in 1975 when he joined the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. He quickly established himself as a talented musician and was soon appointed as the principal clarinetist of the orchestra. Boisits remained with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra for over 30 years and played in numerous productions, including operas, ballets, and concerts. In addition to his work with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, Boisits was also a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. He performed with many renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Boisits also collaborated with many famous conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, and Herbert von Karajan. In 1980, he was awarded the Prize of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 1982, he received the Prize of the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research. Boisits was also awarded the Golden Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria in 2006. One of the highlights of Boisits' career was his performance of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Leonard Bernstein in 1985. The performance was recorded and released on DVD, and it is considered one of the greatest performances of the concerto. Boisits retired from the Vienna State Opera Orchestra in 2006, but he continued to perform as a soloist and chamber musician.
