Role:ConductorNaomi Munakata was born on August 15, 1955, in São Paulo, Brazil. She was born into a family of musicians, and her father, Toshio Munakata, was a renowned conductor and composer. From a young age, Naomi showed a keen interest in music and began studying piano and singing. Naomi's musical education began at the age of six when she started taking piano lessons. She later studied singing at the São Paulo State University School of Music, where she earned a degree in music education. She also studied choral conducting at the University of São Paulo. In 1985, Naomi became the conductor of the Coral Paulistano, a choir that was founded in 1920 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious choirs in Brazil. Under her leadership, the choir became known for its high-quality performances of classical and contemporary choral music. Naomi's talent as a conductor was recognized internationally when she was invited to conduct the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus in Japan in 1990. She also conducted the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra and the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra. In 1995, Naomi was appointed the conductor of the São Paulo State Symphony Choir, a position she held until 2013. During her tenure, the choir performed at major venues in Brazil and around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Carnegie Hall in New York. Naomi's work with the São Paulo State Symphony Choir earned her numerous awards and accolades. In 2001, she was awarded the Carlos Gomes Prize, the highest honor for classical music in Brazil. She was also awarded the Medalha Anchieta, the highest honor given by the city of São Paulo, in recognition of her contributions to the arts. In addition to her work as a conductor, Naomi was also a respected teacher and mentor. She taught choral conducting at the São Paulo State University School of Music and was a guest lecturer at universities and music schools around the world. Naomi's passion for music and her dedication to her craft inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world. She passed away on June 26, 2020, at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in choral music.More....
