Role:EnsemblePeriod:BaroqueClassicalGenre:ChamberConcertoOrchestralBrandenburg Collegium is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1985 by the renowned conductor and harpsichordist Anthony Newman. The ensemble is named after Johann Sebastian Bach's famous Brandenburg Concertos, which are considered to be some of the greatest works of the Baroque era. The founding members of the ensemble were all accomplished musicians who shared a passion for performing Baroque music. In addition to Anthony Newman, the original members included violinists Cynthia Roberts and Lisa Rautenberg, cellist Myron Lutzke, and flutist Sandra Miller. Over the years, the ensemble has expanded to include a rotating cast of musicians, but the core members have remained the same. One of the highlights of the ensemble's early years was their performance of Bach's complete Brandenburg Concertos at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the ensemble as one of the premier Baroque music groups in the United States. Since then, Brandenburg Collegium has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and music festivals in the world. They have been featured at the Lincoln Center in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland, among others. In addition to their live performances, the ensemble has also recorded several albums of Baroque music. Their recordings have received critical acclaim and have been nominated for several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. One of the ensemble's most notable performances was their collaboration with the Mark Morris Dance Group on a production of Handel's opera "Acis and Galatea." The production, which premiered at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1999, was a groundbreaking fusion of dance and opera that received widespread acclaim. Another highlight of the ensemble's career was their performance of Bach's "St. Matthew Passion" at the Lincoln Center in 2013. The performance was hailed as a triumph, with critics praising the ensemble's "impeccable musicianship" and "deep emotional resonance." Over the years, Brandenburg Collegium has received numerous awards and honors for their contributions to the world of classical music. In addition to their Grammy nomination, they have been awarded the Diapason d'Or, the Choc de la Musique, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, among others. Despite their many accomplishments, the members of Brandenburg Collegium remain dedicated to their mission of bringing the music of the Baroque era to audiences around the world. Through their performances and recordings, they continue to inspire and delight audiences with their passion and artistry.More....
