Margherita Tomasi was born on May 12, 1985, in Milan, Italy. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her father being a renowned pianist and her mother a violinist. From a young age, Margherita showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Margherita's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking piano lessons with her father and quickly progressed, winning her first competition at the age of six. Margherita continued to study with her father until the age of 14 when she was accepted into the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. At the conservatory, Margherita studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Carlo Bruno. She quickly established herself as one of the top students in her class, winning several awards and competitions. Margherita's talent and dedication to her craft earned her a scholarship to study at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. At Juilliard, Margherita studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Emanuel Ax. She continued to excel in her studies, winning several awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition. Margherita's performances at Juilliard were praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. After graduating from Juilliard, Margherita began performing professionally, making her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2008. Her performance was met with critical acclaim, with The New York Times praising her "virtuosic technique and expressive playing." Margherita continued to perform at major venues around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House. Margherita's repertoire included works by some of the greatest composers in classical music, including Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. She was particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Franz Liszt, whose music she had a deep affinity for. Margherita's performances of Liszt's works were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional intensity. In addition to her performances, Margherita was also a dedicated teacher, giving masterclasses and workshops around the world. She was passionate about passing on her knowledge and love of music to the next generation of musicians. Margherita's career was tragically cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. Despite her illness, she continued to perform and teach, inspiring countless people with her courage and determination. Margherita passed away on June 15, 2017, at the age of 32.
