Les Métamorphoses
Artist Info

Les Métamorphoses is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in Paris, France, and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of classical and contemporary music. The founding members of Les Métamorphoses were violinist Lise Berthaud, cellist François Salque, and pianist David Saudubray. All three musicians had already established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. They were joined by clarinetist Romain Guyot and violist Miguel da Silva, both of whom were also well-respected musicians in their own right. From the beginning, Les Métamorphoses set out to explore the rich and diverse repertoire of chamber music, from the classical masters to contemporary composers. The ensemble's name reflects this commitment to transformation and evolution, as well as its belief in the power of music to inspire change and growth. Over the years, Les Métamorphoses has expanded its membership to include a rotating cast of musicians, depending on the repertoire and performance venue. However, the core members of the ensemble remain Berthaud, Salque, Saudubray, Guyot, and da Silva, who continue to collaborate on a regular basis. One of the highlights of Les Métamorphoses' early career was its performance at the Festival de Radio France et Montpellier in 2004. The ensemble's dynamic and expressive interpretation of Brahms' Piano Quintet in F minor earned them critical acclaim and helped to establish their reputation as one of the most exciting young chamber ensembles in Europe. Since then, Les Métamorphoses has gone on to perform at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salzburg Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians and artists, from jazz pianist Brad Mehldau to choreographer Benjamin Millepied. In addition to its live performances, Les Métamorphoses has also released several acclaimed recordings, including an album of works by Schumann and Brahms and a collection of French chamber music. The ensemble's recordings have been praised for their technical precision, emotional depth, and innovative interpretations. Les Métamorphoses has received numerous awards and accolades throughout its career, including the Diapason d'Or and the Victoires de la Musique Classique. The ensemble's commitment to promoting new and innovative music has also earned them a reputation as champions of contemporary composers, with many of their performances featuring works by living composers. Despite its success, Les Métamorphoses remains committed to its founding principles of collaboration, innovation, and transformation. The ensemble continues to push the boundaries of chamber music, exploring new repertoire and collaborating with artists from a wide range of disciplines. With its dynamic and passionate performances, Les Métamorphoses has established itself as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music ensembles of its generation.
