Born on May 5, 1971, in Prague, Czech Republic, Nikl showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. Nikl's early training was under the guidance of his father, who was a violinist with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. He later studied at the Prague Conservatory, where he received his diploma in violin performance. In 1985, he won first prize in the Jaroslav Kocian International Violin Competition, which further cemented his reputation as a rising star in the world of classical music. One of Nikl's most memorable performances was his rendition of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1996.
