Artist Info

Sam Brough is a British classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a conductor, composer, and pianist. Born in 1987 in London, Brough showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. Brough's talent as a pianist was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition for his skill and musicality. He won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Royal Overseas League Piano Competition in 2009. This success led to a busy schedule of performances, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. In addition to his work as a pianist, Brough also developed a passion for conducting and composition. He studied conducting with renowned conductors such as Sir Colin Davis and Bernard Haitink, and he began to write his own music, drawing on his experiences as a performer and his love of classical music. Brough's career as a conductor took off in 2012, when he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. This was a major milestone for Brough, as the London Symphony Orchestra is one of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, and working with them gave him the opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians in the business. Since then, Brough has conducted many other orchestras and ensembles, both in the UK and abroad. He has worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, among others. He has also conducted operas, including Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni, and he has worked with some of the world's leading soloists, such as violinist Nicola Benedetti and cellist Steven Isserlis. Brough's compositions have also gained recognition, and he has been commissioned to write music for a variety of ensembles and occasions. His music is often inspired by his love of nature and the outdoors, and he has written pieces for the National Trust, the Royal Horticultural Society, and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, among others. One of the highlights of Brough's career as a composer was the premiere of his piece The Great Animal Orchestra, which was commissioned by the BBC Proms in 2016. The piece was inspired by the book of the same name by Bernie Krause, which explores the sounds of the natural world. The Great Animal Orchestra was performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Singers, and it was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Brough's work as a musician has been recognized with several awards and honors. In addition to his Royal Overseas League Piano Competition win, he has also been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Salomon Prize for his work as a conductor, and he was named as one of the BBC's New Generation Artists in 2015. Despite his many achievements, Brough remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform, conduct, and compose, and he is passionate about sharing his love of classical music with others. He is also committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the classical music world, and he has spoken out about the need for greater representation of women and people of color in orchestras and other classical music institutions. In conclusion, Sam Brough is a talented and versatile classical music artist who has made a significant impact on the world of music.
