Dmitri Kogan was born on August 29, 1978, in Moscow, Russia. He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being the renowned violinist Leonid Kogan and his mother, Elizaveta Gilels, being the daughter of the famous pianist Emil Gilels. Dmitri began playing the violin at the age of four and was trained by his father. At the age of six, Dmitri made his debut performance at the Moscow Conservatory, playing the Mozart Violin Concerto No. 3. He continued to perform in concerts and competitions throughout his childhood and teenage years, winning numerous awards and accolades. In 1995, Dmitri moved to Germany to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. He continued to win awards and competitions, including the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal and the International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk. Dmitri's career took off in the early 2000s when he won the prestigious International Violin Competition in Indianapolis in 2002. This win led to numerous performances with major orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2004, Dmitri released his debut album, featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. The album received critical acclaim and helped establish Dmitri as one of the leading violinists of his generation. Dmitri continued to perform and record throughout the 2000s and 2010s, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Valery Gergiev and Vladimir Ashkenazy. He also became a professor at the Moscow Conservatory, passing on his knowledge and expertise to the next generation of musicians. In addition to his musical career, Dmitri is also an avid philanthropist, supporting various charities and organizations that promote music education and cultural exchange. Dmitri's legacy as a musician and teacher continues to inspire and influence musicians around the world.
