Alain Romans was a French composer and pianist who was born on October 26, 1905, in Paris, France. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a composer and conductor. Romans began his musical education at a young age, studying piano and composition with his father. Romans continued his musical studies at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied with some of the most prominent composers of the time, including Maurice Ravel and Paul Dukas. He also studied piano with Alfred Cortot and Yves Nat. During his time at the conservatory, Romans won several awards for his compositions, including the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1930. After completing his studies, Romans began his career as a composer and pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented composer, and his works were performed by some of the most prominent orchestras and ensembles in France. He also worked as a pianist, accompanying some of the most famous singers of the time, including Edith Piaf and Charles Trenet. One of Romans' most famous works is his ballet score for Les Enfants Terribles, which was based on the novel by Jean Cocteau. The ballet premiered in 1951 and was a huge success, cementing Romans' reputation as one of the leading composers of his time. The score is known for its haunting melodies and lush orchestration, and it has been performed by orchestras around the world. Romans also composed music for several films, including the classic French film Les Quatre Cents Coups (The 400 Blows).
