At the Conservatory, Terrasson studied under the renowned pianist and composer, Marguerite Long. He quickly became one of her star pupils and won several awards for his performances. In 1953, he won the first prize in piano at the Conservatory, and in 1954, he won the prestigious Prix de Rome, which allowed him to study in Italy for several years. After returning to France, Terrasson began performing in concerts and recitals throughout Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. In 1959, he made his debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5.
