Role:ComposerCarl Boberg was a Swedish poet, pastor, and composer who is best known for writing the lyrics to the hymn "O Store Gud" (How Great Thou Art). He was born on August 16, 1859, in Mönsterås, Sweden, to a family of farmers. Boberg showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at a young age. He also had a talent for writing and published his first poem at the age of 16. Boberg studied at the University of Uppsala, where he earned a degree in theology. He became a pastor in the Swedish Church and served in various parishes throughout his career. Boberg was also involved in politics and was elected to the Swedish parliament in 1912. Boberg's interest in music continued throughout his life, and he composed several hymns and songs. His most famous work, "O Store Gud," was inspired by a visit to a beautiful countryside in Sweden. Boberg was struck by the beauty of the landscape and the majesty of God's creation, and he wrote the lyrics to the hymn in 1885. The hymn was set to music by Swedish composer Gustav Boberg in 1888, and it quickly became popular in Sweden. The hymn was translated into German in 1907 and into English in 1925. It has since been translated into many other languages and is now sung in churches around the world. Boberg's other compositions include "Jag lyfter mina händer" (I Lift My Hands), "Sång till friheten" (Song of Freedom), and "Sång till solen" (Song to the Sun). He also wrote several books of poetry, including "Sånger i Guds frihet" (Songs in God's Freedom) and "Sånger vid havet" (Songs by the Sea). Boberg died on January 7, 1940, in Kalmar, Sweden, at the age of 80. His legacy lives on through his hymn "O Store Gud," which continues to inspire and uplift people around the world.More....
