He was born on 12th June 1950 in Berlin, Germany. From a young age, Schnelle showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. He began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly developed a natural talent for the instrument. Schnelle's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. He studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. Schnelle's dedication and hard work paid off, and he graduated with honors in 1972. After completing his studies, Schnelle began his career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and was invited to perform at various prestigious venues across Europe. In 1974, he made his debut at the Berlin Philharmonic, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a huge success, and Schnelle received critical acclaim for his interpretation of the piece. Over the years, Schnelle continued to perform at various renowned venues across the world, including the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. He collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, and Daniel Barenboim. In 1985, he was awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, one of the highest honors bestowed by the city. He was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1995. Despite his success, Schnelle remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to perform and record until his retirement in 2010. His final performance was at the Berlin Philharmonic, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 to a standing ovation. Ferdinand Schnelle passed away on 15th March 2015, at the age of 64. His legacy lives on through his recordings and the countless musicians he inspired throughout his career.
