New Company is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and has since become one of the most sought-after chamber groups in the United States. The founding members of New Company were violinist Sarah Chang, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Lang Lang, and violist Pinchas Zukerman. These four musicians had all achieved international acclaim in their own right, but they came together to form New Company with the goal of exploring the rich repertoire of chamber music and bringing their unique perspectives to this genre. Over the years, the ensemble has expanded to include other talented musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, and pianist Emanuel Ax. However, the founding members remain at the core of the group and continue to play an active role in shaping its artistic direction. New Company has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the highlights of New Company's career was their performance at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. The ensemble played a medley of British pop songs, including "Hey Jude" by The Beatles and "Wonderwall" by Oasis, to a global audience of millions. The performance was widely praised for its creativity and energy, and it helped to introduce classical music to a new generation of listeners. New Company has also been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the world of classical music. In 2014, the ensemble was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the field of classical music. The prize is awarded annually to a musician or ensemble that has demonstrated exceptional talent and made significant contributions to the field. In addition to their performances and awards, New Company is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly participates in masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have established a scholarship program to support talented students who are pursuing careers in classical music. Overall, New Company is a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring appeal of classical music. Through their innovative performances and commitment to education, the ensemble has inspired countless listeners and helped to ensure that classical music remains a vital and vibrant art form.
