The ensemble was founded in 1991 by Misha Rachlevsky, a renowned violinist and conductor, with the aim of bringing together some of the most talented young musicians from Russia's top conservatories. Rachlevsky's vision was to create an ensemble that would showcase the rich musical heritage of Russia while also exploring new and innovative approaches to classical music. The ensemble's name, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, was inspired by its original home in the historic Kremlin Palace in Moscow, where it performed its first concert in 1991. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone several changes, including a name change to the Russian String Orchestra in 2016. However, its commitment to excellence and innovation has remained constant, and it has become one of the most sought-after classical music ensembles in the world. The ensemble's core members include violinists Ekaterina Kichigina, Ekaterina Kichigina, and Alexei Kornienko, violist Andrey Tikhomirov, cellist Alexei Zhilin, and bassist Alexander Buzlov. One of the highlights of the Russian String Orchestra's career was its performance at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where it was the only classical music ensemble invited to perform. The ensemble's performance was widely praised, and it received a standing ovation from the audience. Since then, the Russian String Orchestra has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned musicians, including pianist Vladimir Feltsman, cellist Nina Kotova, and violinist Vadim Repin.
