Ensemble of Ancient Instruments Concerto Antemurale is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing music from the Baroque and Renaissance periods. The ensemble was founded in 1981 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music and historical performance practices. The founding members of the ensemble were violinist and artistic director Stefano Barneschi, flutist and recorder player Marcello Gatti, harpsichordist and organist Lorenzo Ghielmi, and cellist and viola da gamba player Gaetano Nasillo. Over the years, the ensemble has expanded to include other talented musicians who share their commitment to historical performance practices. The name "Concerto Antemurale" is derived from the Latin phrase "ante murum," which means "before the wall." The ensemble chose this name to reflect their mission of breaking down the barriers between the past and the present, and bringing the music of the Baroque and Renaissance periods to modern audiences. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was their performance at the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, Netherlands in 1990. This festival is one of the most prestigious early music festivals in the world, and the ensemble's performance was widely praised for its virtuosity and authenticity. In addition to their performances at festivals and concert halls around the world, Ensemble of Ancient Instruments Concerto Antemurale has also recorded several albums of Baroque and Renaissance music. Their recordings have received critical acclaim and have been praised for their technical precision and musical sensitivity. One of the ensemble's most notable recordings is their album "Concerti per la Pietà," which features music by Antonio Vivaldi. This album was recorded in collaboration with the renowned mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, and was widely praised for its innovative interpretation of Vivaldi's music. Ensemble of Ancient Instruments Concerto Antemurale has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 1992, they were awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or award for their recording of music by Johann Sebastian Bach. They have also been awarded the Choc de la Musique award and the Gramophone Award for their recordings. Despite their many achievements, Ensemble of Ancient Instruments Concerto Antemurale remains committed to their mission of bringing the music of the Baroque and Renaissance periods to modern audiences. They continue to perform and record music from these periods with the same passion and dedication that inspired their founding over 40 years ago.More....
