Mieczyslaw Karlowicz was a Polish composer and conductor who was born on December 11, 1876, in Vishneva, Belarus. He was the youngest of six children in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist. Karlowicz began his musical education at a young age, studying piano and violin with his parents. He later studied composition with Zygmunt Noskowski at the Warsaw Conservatory. Karlowicz's early works were influenced by the music of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. He was also inspired by the natural beauty of the Tatra Mountains, which he visited frequently. His love of nature is evident in many of his compositions, which often feature programmatic elements. In 1902, Karlowicz traveled to Berlin to study with the renowned composer and conductor Felix Weingartner. He also studied with Max Bruch in Berlin and with Engelbert Humperdinck in Frankfurt. During this time, he composed some of his most famous works, including the Violin Concerto in A major and the tone poem "Eternal Songs."
