Opus Two is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1997 by violinist William Terwilliger and pianist Andrew Cooperstock. The duo has been praised for their virtuosic performances and their ability to bring new life to classical music. William Terwilliger was born in New York City and began playing the violin at the age of six. He went on to study at the Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music. Andrew Cooperstock was born in New York as well and began playing the piano at the age of four. He studied at the Juilliard School and the Peabody Conservatory. The two musicians met while studying at the Peabody Conservatory and quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music. They formed Opus Two in 1997 and began performing together regularly. Opus Two has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House. They have also performed at numerous festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Chautauqua Institution, and the Festival Internacional de Música de Cámara de Aguascalientes in Mexico. One of the highlights of Opus Two's career was their performance at the 2002 World Economic Forum in New York City. The duo was invited to perform for world leaders and business executives, including former President Bill Clinton and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Opus Two has also been recognized for their recordings. Their album "American Souvenirs" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2009. The album features works by American composers such as George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Aaron Copland. In addition to their performances and recordings, Opus Two is also committed to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools around the world. They have also worked with young musicians through programs such as the National Symphony Orchestra's Youth Fellowship Program and the Sphinx Organization. Opus Two's repertoire includes works from a wide range of composers and styles, from Bach and Beethoven to contemporary composers such as John Corigliano and Jennifer Higdon.
