Arcangeli Baroque Strings is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing Baroque music. The ensemble was founded in 2010 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for Baroque music and wanted to bring it to a wider audience. The founding members of the ensemble were violinists Maria Ferré and David Rabinovich, violist Sarah Darling, cellist Rebecca Humphrey, and harpsichordist Michael Bahmann. The ensemble's name, Arcangeli, is Italian for "archangels," and was chosen to reflect the heavenly beauty of Baroque music. The ensemble's mission is to bring this music to life through historically informed performances that are faithful to the original intentions of the composers. Arcangeli Baroque Strings has performed at numerous venues throughout the United States, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Boston Early Music Festival. The ensemble has also been featured on radio programs such as NPR's Performance Today and WGBH's Classical New England. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was their performance at the 2013 Boston Early Music Festival. The festival is one of the largest and most prestigious early music festivals in the world, and Arcangeli Baroque Strings was honored to be invited to perform. The ensemble's performance was well-received by both the audience and the critics, and helped to establish them as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in the United States. In addition to their performances, Arcangeli Baroque Strings has also received numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their debut album, "Baroque Masterpieces," was released in 2012 and received critical acclaim. The album features works by composers such as Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi, and showcases the ensemble's virtuosity and musicality. Another notable recording by the ensemble is their 2015 album, "Bach: The Art of Fugue." This album features Bach's monumental work for keyboard, arranged for string quartet by Michael Bahmann. The recording was praised for its clarity and precision, as well as its emotional depth. The members of Arcangeli Baroque Strings are all accomplished musicians in their own right, with extensive experience performing and recording with other ensembles. Maria Ferré, the ensemble's concertmaster, has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Handel and Haydn Society, among others. David Rabinovich, the ensemble's co-founder, has performed with the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Sarah Darling, the ensemble's violist, has performed with the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra and the Portland Baroque Orchestra. Rebecca Humphrey, the ensemble's cellist, has performed with the Boston Pops and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. And Michael Bahmann, the ensemble's harpsichordist, is a renowned performer and scholar of Baroque music. In addition to their performances and recordings, Arcangeli Baroque Strings is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for students and young musicians, and has worked with organizations such as the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the New England Conservatory Preparatory School.
