Barltrop's talent and hard work paid off, and he soon began to establish himself as a prominent violinist. He has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, and Edo de Waart. One of the highlights of Barltrop's career was his appointment as the concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2007. As concertmaster, Barltrop was responsible for leading the orchestra and ensuring that the musicians played in unison. He held this position for six years, during which time he helped to elevate the orchestra's reputation and cement its place as one of the best orchestras in the world. In addition to his work as a performer, Barltrop is also a dedicated teacher.
