Barrington Pheloung is a British composer, best known for his work in film and television. He was born on May 10, 1954, in Sydney, Australia, and grew up in England. His parents were both musicians, and he began playing the piano at a young age. He later studied music at the Royal College of Music in London. Pheloung began his career as a composer in the 1980s, working on a number of television shows and films. One of his early projects was the BBC drama series "The Paradise Club," which aired from 1989 to 1990. He also composed the music for the 1990 film "Truly, Madly, Deeply," directed by Anthony Minghella. However, Pheloung is perhaps best known for his work on the television series "Inspector Morse," which aired from 1987 to 2000. The show, which starred John Thaw as the titular detective, was set in Oxford and featured Pheloung's distinctive score, which incorporated elements of classical music and jazz. The theme song, which Pheloung composed, became iconic and is still recognized by many today. Pheloung's work on "Inspector Morse" earned him a number of awards and nominations, including a BAFTA for Best Original Television Music in 1991. He also composed the music for the spin-off series "Lewis," which aired from 2006 to 2015. In addition to his work in television and film, Pheloung has also composed a number of classical works.
