Ensemble Parlando
Artist Info
Ensemble Parlando is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in the United States and is known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The founding members of Ensemble Parlando were violinist Rebecca Jackson, cellist Adaiha MacAdam-Somer, and pianist Alison Lee. All three musicians had extensive experience performing in various chamber music ensembles and orchestras, and they were eager to create a group that would allow them to explore new repertoire and collaborate with other musicians. In its early years, Ensemble Parlando focused on performing works by lesser-known composers and commissioning new pieces from contemporary composers. The ensemble's first major performance was in 2013, when they presented a program of works by female composers at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The concert was well-received, and it helped establish Ensemble Parlando as a group that was committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in classical music. Over the years, Ensemble Parlando has expanded its repertoire to include works by more well-known composers, such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. However, the ensemble continues to prioritize programming that showcases underrepresented voices in classical music. One of the highlights of Ensemble Parlando's career was their performance at the 2016 Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the festival's classical showcase, and they received a standing ovation from the audience. The performance helped raise the ensemble's profile and led to more opportunities to perform at festivals and concert series around the country. Ensemble Parlando has also been recognized for its commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble has presented numerous educational programs for students of all ages, including workshops, masterclasses, and performances in schools and community centers. In 2018, the ensemble was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support their educational initiatives. The current members of Ensemble Parlando are Rebecca Jackson (violin), Adaiha MacAdam-Somer (cello), Alison Lee (piano), and violist Emily Onderdonk. Onderdonk joined the ensemble in 2018, and her addition has allowed the group to expand its repertoire to include works for string quartet. Ensemble Parlando has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2015, the ensemble was awarded the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant, which allowed them to collaborate with composer Gabriela Lena Frank on a new work. The ensemble has also been featured on NPR's Performance Today and has been praised by critics for their "exquisite musicianship" and "passionate performances." Looking to the future, Ensemble Parlando plans to continue exploring new repertoire and collaborating with other musicians and composers. The ensemble is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in classical music and hopes to inspire the next generation of musicians and music lovers.More....
