The El Paso Wind Symphony is a classical music ensemble based in El Paso, Texas. The ensemble was founded in 1996 by Dr. Ron Hufstader, a music professor at the University of Texas at El Paso. The group was formed with the goal of providing high-quality wind band performances to the El Paso community and beyond. The El Paso Wind Symphony is made up of approximately 60 musicians, including professional musicians, music educators, and advanced music students. The ensemble is led by conductor and music director Dr. Ron Hufstader, who has been with the group since its inception. Over the years, the El Paso Wind Symphony has performed a wide variety of music, including classical works, contemporary pieces, and original compositions. The group has also collaborated with a number of guest artists, including renowned trumpet player Allen Vizzutti and saxophonist Eugene Rousseau. One of the highlights of the El Paso Wind Symphony's history was their performance at the 2009 Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio. The group was selected to perform as one of only two wind bands from the state of Texas. The performance was well-received by both the audience and critics, and helped to raise the profile of the ensemble. In addition to their performance at the TMEA Convention, the El Paso Wind Symphony has also received a number of awards and accolades over the years. In 2007, the group was named the "Outstanding Wind Band" by the Texas Music Educators Association.
