Christian Reif is a rising star in the world of classical music. Born in Munich, Germany in 1989, Reif began his musical journey at a young age. He started playing the piano when he was just six years old and later picked up the violin. His passion for music continued to grow, and he eventually decided to pursue a career in conducting. Reif studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree in conducting. He then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned his Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting. Throughout his career, Reif has had the opportunity to work with some of the world's most renowned orchestras. He has served as a conducting fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida, and has worked with the San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. One of Reif's most notable performances was his debut with the San Francisco Symphony in 2016. He conducted a program that included works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Ravel, and received rave reviews for his performance. The San Francisco Chronicle praised Reif's "clear, incisive conducting" and noted that he "brought out the best in the orchestra." In addition to his work with orchestras, Reif has also conducted opera productions. He made his opera debut in 2017 with the Juilliard Opera, where he conducted a production of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." He has also worked with the San Francisco Opera and the Los Angeles Opera. Reif has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2015, he was awarded the Bruno Walter Conducting Scholarship, which is given to promising young conductors. He was also a recipient of the Herbert von Karajan Fellowship, which allowed him to study with renowned conductor Bernard Haitink. In 2018, Reif was appointed as the Resident Conductor of the San Francisco Symphony.
